Since 2000 I've been running marathons, my personal best is 2:44. Since I cannot improve my performance any further, I decided - also - to run in a costume.
Not only marathon runners show an outstanding performance. The performance of the spectators is exceptional as well.
I hope that I can return a little bit of the joy and enthusiasm of the runners!

History
The statue of Roland von Wedel
Around 1558 the statue of Roland von Wedel was build in sandstone.
For the Roland von Wedel is special that he has not the look of a knight as most of his peers. He looks like a king or an emporer!

Statues of Roland
Statues of Roland as a knight with a bare sword were erected on market places and in front of town halls since medieval times.
They symbolise market rights and market justice as a sign of civil freedom.
There exists a whole lot of statues of Rolands.
Markgrave Roland
The historical Markgrave Roland (Hruotland) was born around 736 and lived during the time of Karoli Magni.
He was killed on the 15th of August 778 near Roncesvalles in the Pyrenees.
Running
On the 16th of April 2000 I was running my first marathon in Hamburg. My net time was 4:11:18.
I was running my personal best in the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington DC on the 30th of October 2005: 2:44:23.
